How long have you been interested in the paranormal?
Many people with in this field would say that they have been interested as a child, and I am no exception.
Ever since I was young, I was always interested in strange things and those outside of the normal, day-to-day experience.
Now that I am older, and am more rooted in the day-to-day, I seek out those things that made each day special. And if I can help some
people out and further general knowledge while doing it, all the better.
What started this interest?
My interest in ghosts and spiritual phenomena grew out of my belief in life after death and my desire to understand
life and death better. I grew up in a religious family and want to understand how it all fits together.
How did you become involved with New England Paranormal?
I attended a class at BCAE, the Boston Center for Adult Education, on the science behind ghostbusting.
Steve, the founder of New England Paranormal, taught the class. I was interested, and I came back for a second time to do the
ghost hunt in the Gamble Mansion. After that, I asked Steve if I could join, and away I went!
When you go on an investigation what do you expect? What don't you expect?
I expect excitement, but don't expect to experience something every time. The difficulty of investigating
spiritual phenomena, is that they don't happen on command. You have to sit there for a while, and even then don't always get something.
And I am my biggest skeptic. Even if I experience something I want to be sure before confirming it to myself. But you can always expect
an interesting evening with some great people. It's the thrill of the hunt. You go out 9 times and see nothing, but on the 10th...
If someone wants to get involved with Paranormal Research/Investigations, what would you suggest to them?
Read up, and then go out and do some experiments and hunts for yourself. Your best friend is knowledge. Learn all you can.
Then go apply it. Go out to cemeteries at night and take some photos (but ask permission first). Search on the internet for local groups. They are out
there. Go meet the members and founders. Take them out for coffee or something and just pick their brain. If they are anything like the people I've met,
they'd be more than happy to go out and talk. See if they're accepting members...
Any other comments?
Be honest. Keep good records. Keep originals. Keep a log. Use traditional methods that are difficult to tamper, such as film cameras.
There are a lot of skeptics out there and people who will try to discredit you, simply because they won't believe and think you are doing harm on society.
Make it so that they can't disprove you. On a different note, be professional. People come to you for help, and it is your job to help them.
Don't take money from them, but make sure to get a turkey sandwich.
